Students Cry Out Over Safety Concerns
A female student, Mariam, shared her frustration and fear over repeated security threats in the area. She revealed that students have suffered multiple cases of rape, robbery, and other crimes despite visible security presence on the campus.
“We are tired. This Rivers State student kidnapping is just one of many issues. Hoodlums keep attacking us even with security agencies around,” she said.
Mariam added that students had been waiting for the government’s intervention to relocate them back to the Port Harcourt main campus. “All we want now is to be moved back to Port Harcourt. We do not feel safe here,” she lamented.
Police Confirm Attack, Launch Coordinated Manhunt
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement by spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko. She stated that around 2:30 am on December 2, suspected cultists invaded the Rumuche/Rumuohia area and abducted five people, including the four RSU students.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, immediately visited the crime scene and ordered intensified efforts by tactical units, the Area Commander, and the Joint Task Force to rescue the victims and apprehend the suspects.
Iringe-Koko further assured the public that those responsible for the Rivers State student kidnapping would be arrested and prosecuted.
She urged residents to remain calm and assist with credible information to support the investigation.
The Rivers State student kidnapping has sparked renewed concerns over student safety in Emohua, prompting calls for urgent action from both the university community and security agencies. As the police intensify their manhunt, families and students remain hopeful for the safe return of the abducted victims.
