Nigeria ECOWAS levy payment. For the first time in nearly two decades, Nigeria has achieved a historic milestone by fully settling its financial obligations to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). This marks a 100% payment of the community levy a key funding mechanism for the regional bloc.

The Nigeria ECOWAS levy payment, totaling ₦84 billion and $54 million, covers Nigeria’s 2023 contributions and extends through July 2024. The announcement was made by the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, during an event held in Abuja on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Touray described the payment, finalized on Friday, December 13, as a monumental step in Nigeria’s dedication to fostering regional unity and development.

“For the first time in 19 years, Nigeria has paid 100% of its community levy, covering the year 2023 and extending into July 2024. The total payment amounts to ₦84 billion and $54 million. This reflects the unwavering commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his administration, and the Nigerian people to the ECOWAS community.”

Dr. Touray also highlighted how this payment symbolizes Nigeria’s confidence in ECOWAS, emphasizing the critical role the country plays in supporting regional integration.

“As President of the ECOWAS Commission since 2022, I am deeply grateful for Nigeria’s steadfast support and leadership. This act of dedication inspires all of us working towards a stronger and more united West Africa.”

This landmark achievement underscores Nigeria’s renewed commitment to its regional responsibilities and its leading role within ECOWAS. It sets a positive tone for further collaboration and development within the West African community.
