President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s unwavering determination to defeat terrorism in Nigeria, assuring the United States of the government’s ongoing cooperation to strengthen security and stability across the nation.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria remains fully engaged with international allies in addressing both political and economic challenges. His statement came in response to recent concerns expressed by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the country’s security situation.
New Ministers Sworn In Amid Renewed Governance Drive
The President made these remarks shortly after swearing in two new ministers — Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh from Enugu State and Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State.
Dr. Udeh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former Enugu State Attorney General, replaces Uche Nnaji, who resigned following a certificate scandal. Dr. Doro assumes the position previously held by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who now serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Economic Growth Highlights Government’s Progress
Before the swearing-in, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) held a meeting where Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, announced a 4.23% GDP growth for Nigeria in the second quarter of 2025 — the highest in a decade outside the post-pandemic recovery period.
President Tinubu praised the nation’s economic momentum, citing the successful $2.3 billion bond oversubscription as proof of investor confidence in Nigeria’s fiscal direction.
Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Peace and Unity
Reinforcing his stance, Tinubu assures the U.S. of Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, declaring that his Renewed Hope Agenda remains anchored on peace, unity, and economic progress.
“The task ahead is immense,” Tinubu said. “We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we will defeat terrorism in this country. Our focus remains on building a secure, prosperous, and united Nigeria.”
The FEC also held a moment of silence in honour of the late Senator Solomon Ewuga, a former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, and General Mohammed Abdullahi, a former military governor and the founding Director General of the Nigerian Security Organization (NSO).
Nigeria’s Global Partnerships Strengthen the Fight Against Terrorism
With his latest assurance, Tinubu assures the U.S. of Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and reaffirms the nation’s readiness to work closely with global partners in tackling insecurity. As the administration continues to implement its Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigerians and international observers alike are watching closely to see how these efforts will reshape the country’s security and economic landscape in the coming months.
